Dr. John W. Higgins
Dr. John W. Higgins is a graduate of the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine and serving as a senior surgical resident. He served as a captain in the United States air force as head of Preventive Medicine at the Bordeaux air base in France, overseeing the health of 3000 personnel. Dr. Higgins became a senior staff member at the speyer hospital and helped to form the Animal Medical Center. There he was assistant head of surgery and head of emergency service, and monitored the internal and nursing staff. He worked on the cardiovascular surgery project at the Bronx Veterinary Hospital in the 1960's. He founded Yorkville Animal Hospital in 1962. He has served on The Board of The New York City Veterinary Associates.
Jill Elliot DVM, MSW
Dr. Elliot graduted from Ross School of Veterinary Medicine in June 1995. Since then she has been working as a conventional veterinarian at various practices in NYC. She has been a part-time veterinarian at Yorkville Animal Hospital for 6 years. Dr. Elliot has also studied and practices homeopathic medicine. We are fortunate to have Dr. Elliot as a veterinarian in our practice.
Dr. Michelle Meltzer
Dr. Michelle Meltzer joined our staff in the late summer of 2007. She grew up in Rochester, New York and resided in Las Cruces, New Mexico for two years before moving back to New York in 2007. Dr. Meltzer graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Animal Science in 1999, and worked in the Cornell University Diagnostic Laboratory from 1999-2001. In 2001 she moved to the Caribbean island of St. Kitts to begin her veterinary school training at Ross University. Her clinical year was completed at the University of Illinois in 2004-2005. We are pleased to have her as part of our full time Veterinary Doctors on our team.
